A typical club night
The President chairs the meeting and ensures the programme runs smoothly.
We have a segment near the beginning of the meeting called Talking Point which is an open forum where a club member chairs a discussion of topical issues.
There will usually be three speakers from within the club membership. These speeches run to between six and eight minutes and typically align with the meeting theme.
The speeches are evaluated by a ‘mini-evaluator’. They critique the elements of the speech such as delivery, content and use of gestures in an encouraging way.
After the interval, we hold a topics session. This involves members being asked to deliver a short speech on a topic suggested by the topics chair.
One club member delivers a ‘general evaluation’ of the club meeting which gives feedback on how the meeting went as a whole.
Other club evenings
Throughout the year we have club events and educational evenings which differ from our typical club nights.
Educational evenings can be done in-house, or we have someone from outwith the club come along to assist us with the various aspects of public speaking.
We have education planned on topics and general evaluation this year.
Previous education has included; mini-evaluation, PowerPoint and vote of thanks. Education topics are suggested by club members and arranged by the club Education Officer. |
